Weekly Update | September 15, 2023

Good Afternoon Saddle Ridge Families,

We had a great week at Saddle Ridge School. Students are settling into our school community and participating in wonderful learning opportunities. We held our Terry Fox Run this morning and all our participants did an awesome job. Here are some key updates for you.

School Forms Deadline September 18, 2023

The Annual Authorization Form (FOIP) will ensure your student’s picture & work can be included in their Google Classroom. The Demographics Verification form ensures the school has the correct emergency contact information for your child.

Please complete the Annual Authorization Form and Demographics Verification form in School Engage by September 18. You will find access to School Engage through your MyCBE account. If you do not have a MyCBE account, please contact the office for assistance.

Meet the Teacher -September 21, 2023

We hope that you will join us for our Virtual Open House on September 21, 2023. Teachers will be holding 2 online sessions during the evening. Parents are welcome to attend whichever session works for them (each session will be the same). Each session will be appropriately 30 minutes. You will receive a link from your child’s teacher’s next week.

Alberta Education Assessment

We wanted to let you know students in grades 2, 3 and 4 are currently being assessed in both literacy and numeracy. These assessments are activities that will be done by your child’s teacher, during school time, before the end of September. These assessments are mandated by Alberta Education to better understand how COVID-19 has affected the information students have retained. Alberta Education will use the assessment results of the system to determine additional funding for the Calgary Board of Education. Individual results of students will not be shared with Alberta Education and is not used in determining report card grades. Grade 1 students will be assessed later this year in both literacy and numeracy.

Assessment is ongoing and a regular part of every school year. This is just one more way our teachers are better able to understand the learning needs of your child.

You can learn more about how schools share student progress with families on our website or in this document, How is My Child Doing In School?.

If you have any questions about these assessments, please contact us at the school.
